Castro Valley is an unincorporated town of ridges and canyons east of the bay, where the streets climb into the hills above Lake Chabot and the business district runs along Castro Valley Boulevard. It has no city hall, which makes a hometown newspaper more useful, not less: the Forum is where the county's decisions about the town are reported, and where the town answers back.
The Forum has covered Castro Valley every week since 1989. Its name is a promise. The letters page is one of the most-read parts of the paper, and it is open to anyone who lives here.

San Leandro is a city of about ninety thousand people on the bay shore, with a downtown that still announces itself with an arch over the street and a Spanish-tiled bell tower a block away. The Times covers the city and the unincorporated communities beside it: San Lorenzo, Ashland, and Sheffield Village.
Every Thursday, 30,000 copies of the Times are delivered free to homes, apartments, and businesses across San Leandro and Sheffield Village. It has been published every week since 1991, from the San Leandro office where it is still written today.
