San Leandro, California Publisher of the Castro Valley Forum and the San Leandro Times Est. 1989
East Bay Publishing Corporation

About

A local publisher, in the plain sense of the words.

East Bay Publishing Corporation is a San Leandro company. It publishes two weekly newspapers for the two towns it sits between, and it has done that for more than thirty-five years.

Our story

Two papers, started two years apart.

The Castro Valley Forum first appeared in 1989, a community newspaper for an unincorporated town that had no paper of its own. The San Leandro Times followed in 1991, an independent hometown paper for the city next door. Both are still published every week, and both are still free.

The company that publishes them has stayed the size a local newsroom should be. Reporters, editors, and advertising staff work from one office in San Leandro, a few minutes from everything they cover. When a reader calls, a person answers.

The papers are delivered to homes rather than sold at racks, which changes what they are for. A paper that arrives whether or not you asked for it has to earn its place on the table every week, with news you could not get anywhere else.

The East Bay Publishing Corporation seal: golden hills above the bay, the sun upper right, inside a double ring

Our seal

Hills and bay. The view from Castro Valley looking west, and from San Leandro looking east.

The two hills are the two towns. The water is what they share. The double ring is the promise a community newspaper makes: to be there every week, without fail.

What we believe

How a hometown paper should behave.

Be there

At the council meeting, the school board, the game, and the parade. Local news is reported by showing up.

Print the letters

The letters page belongs to readers. The Forum is named for it. Disagreement is part of the job.

Stay independent

The papers are locally owned and answer to their readers and advertisers, not to a chain in another state.

Deliver free

Everyone in town gets the paper, not only the people who subscribe. That is what makes it the town's paper.

Keep the record

Obituaries, notices, and the week's events, kept accurately, because someone will look for them later.
